Fungal mycelium tablets that break down poop in the backcountry
PACT Outdoors Mycelium Tabs are inoculated with mycelium that helps support decomposition of human poop into bioavailable nutrients for the soil. Mycelium is the root system for fungi, and natureâs great decomposer. When added to a hole with poop, it accelerates breakdown and kills harmful pathogens like E. coli that can persist in the soil that contaminate waterways thus harming wildlife and threatening public health. This mycelium provides a unique service to the environment by improving soil health, protecting surrounding areas from parasites, and breaking down poop faster. After decomposition of the poop is complete, the mycelium's lifecycle ends, and it becomes food for other organisms in the soil.Â
Features:
- Kill harmful pathogens like E. coli that can harm waterways, wildlife, and public health
- Easy to use. Add three to the hole, fill with dirt, and let nature do the rest
- Native, non-invasive species of mycelium is safe for use in the United States*
- Approved for use on public lands by the Code of Federal RegulationsÂ
- Mycelium used grows natively in the U.S.A., Europe, Asia, and Australia
- Non-invasive and non-aggressive form of mycelium whose lifestyle ends after decomposition
- Mycelium tolerates a range of temperatures and bioregionsÂ
How to use:Â
- Dig a 6"-8" cat hole 200 ft away from water, trails, and campsites
- Do the doo and poop into the hole
- Drop 3 Mycelium Tabs into the hole and fill with dirt
- Mycelium converts waste into nutrients for the soilÂ

*An overwhelming amount of research shows that this species of mycelium is safe, non-invasive, and non-aggressive. The EUâs Global Register of Introduced and Invasive Species gives this species the lowest classification of risk, having been introduced throughout Europe with no evidence of negative impact. On other continents, it is used as a subsistence food source and as an organic soil additive. Itâs a saprotrophic class of fungi so it only feeds on dead and decaying matter, providing essential ecological benefits. This is different from parasitic fungi, which feed on living plants and animals. Read more about PACT's mycelium research here.Â
